Cleveland Shakespeare Festival

The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival’s second production of the summer is The Merchant of Venice, being played at eight locations around Northeast Ohio July 18th through August 2nd

 

Cleveland Orchestra Volunteers

The Cleveland Orchestra is seeking volunteer ushers, greeters, ticket takers, tour guides and store clerks, as well as middle and high school students for the Junior Volunteer Corps.  Interviews will be held on Wednesday, August 5th, Monday, August 17th, and Thursday, August 27th, from 5:00 to 8:00PM.  For more information, call the house manager at 216-231-7425, or e-mail hmanager@clevelandorchestra.com

Connor Palace

Ohio Light Opera

Ohio Light Opera’s 37th season is underway at the College of Wooster.  Yeoman of the Guard completes the lineup, along with Friederike, Ruddigore, Oh, Kay, One  Touch of Venus, Can-Can and  Brigadoon, all playing in repertory through August 8th.   330-263-2345   

Porthouse Theater

At the Porthouse Theater on the grounds of the Blossom Music Center, the musical Hairspray plays July 30th through August 16th.  330-672-3884  

 

Cleveland Orchestra and Kent/Blossom Chamber Orchestra

On Saturday evening, August 1st, Assistant Conductor Brett Mitchell leads the Cleveland Orchestra at the Blossom Music Center.  James Ehnes is the soloist in Barber’s Violin Concerto.  He’ll also lead members of the Kent/Blossom Chamber Orchestra in a pre-concert program of music by Stravinsky.  On Sunday, August 2nd, Jack Everly leads music from Wicked, Lew Miserables and others.  216-231-1111  

 

Cleveland Jazz Orchestra

The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra will perform a free concert Saturday, August 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lincoln Park Gazebo, Tremont. The performance is presented by Arts Renaissance Tremont, as part of the Arts in August festival. Cleveland's premier jazz ensemble will perform music of Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Paul Ferguson, Cole Porter and Frank Sinatra.

Apollo's Fire

In August, Apollo’s Fire will travel to Europe for a series of concerts with violinist Alina Ibragimova, including a performance at the BBC Proms Concerts.  There’ll be a pair of preview concerts of A Festival of Bach and Vivaldi – on Tuesday, August 11th at Bath Church in Bath, and on Wednesday, August 12th, at the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Kulas Hall.   800-314-2535  

Cleveland Opera Theater

Cleveland Opera Theater’s summer Opera al Fresco concert has a new home at the Dunham Tavern.  On Sunday, August 16th, they’ll present a preview of the 2015-2016 season plus other operatic favorites. 

 

Cleveland Cinemateque

The Cleveland Cinemateque moves to its new venue in the Peter B. Lewis Theater at 11610 Euclid Avenue on Friday, August 7th, with the classic Casablanca.  Beginning Saturday, August 8th, the Cinematque will have a month-long series titled This is 4K, showcasing the newest in digital projection technology.  216-421-7450
