Akron Symphony

The Akron Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the Akron Symphony Chorus, the Summit Choral Society and the University of Akron Concert Choir in a performance of Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah on Saturday evening, May 6th, at Akron’s E. J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall.  330-535-8131  

Arts Renaissance Tremont

The final Arts Renaissance Tremont concert of the season will feature Cleveland Orchestra bassoonist Barrick Stees with the Mosa String Quartet in music of Ravel, Schubert and Miguel del Aguila on Sunday afternoon, May 7th, at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood. 

Case Western Reserve Historical Performance

At Harkness Chapel at Case Western Reserve University, the Historical Performance Program will bring together Early Music Ensembles, the Baroque Orchestra and the Baroque Dance Ensemble for two performances of Handel’s opera Acis and Galatea on Monday and Tuesday evenings, May 1st and 2nd.  216-368-2400  

Choral Arts Cleveland

Choral Arts Cleveland will conclude its Seasons project with the Spring and Summer segments of Haydn’s oratorio The Seasons on Sunday evening, May 7th at Disciples Christian Church in Cleveland Heights.   216-381-4608

Cleveland Composers Guild

The Cleveland Composers Guild presents its 25th annual Creativity:  Learning through Experience program, in which Cleveland composers write new music for musicians ages 6 through 18.  The concert is at Harkness Chapel on the Case Western Reserve University campus on Sunday afternoon, May 7th

Cleveland Orchestra

The Cleveland Orchestra will present three performances of Claude Debussy’s only opera, Pelleas and Melisande, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings, May 2nd,  4th and 6th at Severance Hall.   

Cleveland Orchestra Choruses Auditions

The Cleveland Orchestra Choruses will be holding auditions for the Orchestra Chorus and Blossom Festival Chorus, the Youth Chorus, and the Children’s and Preparatory Choruses.  The adult auditions begin Saturday, April 22nd, and continue through May.  The Youth Chorus auditions are all in May, and the Children’s Chorus and Preparatory Chorus will be held in June.   216-231-7372  

Cleveland Playhouse

The Cleveland Play House New Ground Theater Festival in Playhouse Square includes concert and play readings, the new Disney musical Freaky Friday, which is currently running, and Eric Coble’s new play, These Mortal Hosts.  The Festival itself runs May 11th through 20th

Cleveland Public Theater - Danceworks

Cleveland Public Theater will present Danceworks 2017, its annual showcase of contemporary dance.  There’ll be five weeks’ worth of dance programs from May 4th through June 3rd.  May 4th, 5th and 6th will feature a double bill with Travesty Dance Group and Antaeus Dance.  216-631-2727  ext 501  

Cleveland State University

Woodwind faculty members from Cleveland State University will perform the next concert in the Dr. John A.  Flower concert series.  They’ll play music of Hindemith, Huber, Rossini and Rimsky-Korsakov on Thursday evening, May 4th, in Drinko Recital Hall in the Music and Communications Building on the Cleveland State campus. 

Dobama Theater

Rocky River Chamber Music Society

Six members of the Cincinnati Symphony and the Cleveland Orchestra will join forces on Monday evening, May 8th, in the final concert of the season presented by the Rocky River Chamber Music Society at West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church in Rocky River.  The evening will include music of Carl Reinecke, Franz Strauss, Robert Schumann and Ernst von Dohnanyi.   440-333-4296  

Tri-C East Orchestra

The Tri-C East Orchestra’s Spring Concert takes place on Saturday afternoon, May 6th,  at 3:30 in the auditorium of Building ESS.  They’ll play music of Bizet, Tchaikovsky, Handel and Offenbach.

Trinity Lutheran Church

The noontime Music Near the Market series at Trinity Lutheran Church on West 30th Street in Cleveland will present organist Florence Mustric in a program called Dances, Airs and Laments, music by Kerll, Poulenc and others on Wednesdays,  May 3rd and 10th.  216-281-1700  

Venner Clarinet Choir

On Monday evening, May 1st, the Venner Clarinet Choir will perform at the Akron-Summit County Public Library.  They’ll be joined by the Cleveland Orchestra’s former Principal Clarinetist, Franklin Cohen, for two movements of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto.  The concert will also include music by Ponchielli, Grainger and Mendelssohn. 330-928-6000

Workshop Players

The next production of Workshop Players of Amherst is the farce Don’t Dress for Dinner.  It opens April 20th and continues through May 7th.  440-988-5613
