WVIZ/PBS Televised Auction: Volunteer Opportunities!

Auction is a fun and exciting fundraiser! The annual WVIZ/PBS Televised Auction happens every spring, and it can't happen without our volunteers! It’s fun and a great way to meet people. Join us!

Please review the Volunteer Positions below to discover what you would enjoy doing!

Pre-Auction Volunteer Positions

Prior to the Auction, volunteers are needed months in advance to prepare for the event.

  • Go Getters: Reach out to businesses and individuals to donate items to the Auction. For everything you need to know about Go-Getting, click here.
  • Warehouse: Performs various positions, such as copy writing, stocking and tracking items, completing and filing paperwork, etc.
  • Data Entry: Enter donor/buyer/item info. Database experience preferred. Two training pre-auction shifts required.

Auction Broadcast Volunteer Positions

If you are interested in volunteering during the Auction broadcast, listed below are the positions and their description.

  • Bid Taker: Answer the phone, take bids.
  • Bid Runner: Carry bids from the phone area to the tables. Must be able to walk long periods of time.
  • Food Service: Serves food and beverage. Assists in keeping serving area clean.
  • Furniture Handler: Assists with moving furniture in/out of Auction studio and Auction store. Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more.
  • Confirmation: Call high bidders and arrange for them to pick up their item.
  • Warehouse: Performs various positions, such as copy writing, stocking and tracking items, completing and filing paperwork, etc.
  • Sold Warehouse: Remove sold items from studio, check paperwork, stock items in sold warehouse. Must be able to lift 20 lbs or more.
  • Table Captain/Assistant: For experienced detail and team oriented auction volunteers. Organizes table, assist auctioneers, and organize incoming bids.
  • Table Loader: Pull items from warehouse, check paperwork, and move items into the studio. Must be able to lift 20 lbs or more.
  • Board Marker: Write incoming bids on the Auction item whiteboard. Must be at least 5’6”.
  • Board Writer: Legible printing is required. Writes auction item names and bids onn the whiteboards
  • E-Board Marker: Updates the Auctio website by entering incoming bids onto a laptop computer. Accuracy, required.
  • E-Board Writer: For experienced Auction volunteers. Creates the Auction item boards for the website by entering information onto a laptop Accuracy, required.
  • Cash-n-Carry: Cashie, files paperwork for sold auction items. Must be detail oriented.
  • Data Entry: Enter donor/buyer/item info. Database experience preferred. Must attend at least two pre-auction training sessions (see section above).
  • Auction Store: Assists customers, cashier, keeps store organized.

Auction Weekend Volunteer Benefits:

  • Afternoon, evening and weekend hours are available.
  • Designated parking is provided free of charge to our volunteers.
  • Snacks (or a meal) will be provided.

Attire:

  • Clothing: Business Casual, unless otherwise specified (Board Markers & Table Workers –Sponsor or Auction T-Shirts are okay)
  • Shoes: Comfortable Flats or Athletic Shoes
  • Remember To: SMILE! You’re going to be on TV, and we want you and the Auction to look great!
