Looking for standards-based professional learning?  ideastream offers a wealth of professional learning opportunities.

ideastream's Education department provides a wide array of professional learning opportunities to thousands of educators in over 200 school districts in an eleven county area in Northeast Ohio.

Technology training services can be tailored to a district’s needs from novice to the scholar and can be provided in the ideastream teaching labs, in your school district, or via Distance Learning.

All sessions held at Idea Center at PlayhouseSquare unless otherwise noted below.

Graduate Credit Professional Learning Opportunities

Chromebook Hands-on Teacher Academy

Description: Are you considering going one-to-one with Chromebooks?  Or perhaps you already have a device for each student.  Then come to our institute and discover how to maximize the use of Chromebooks in the classroom.  Come to our Chromebook lab and learn how to distribute and assign Chromebooks, develop lessons, collaborative assignments and more.  We will put you in the roll of the teacher and the student.

Date:  Saturday, October 22, 2016, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Cost:  $150

Location: Idea Center at PlayhouseSquare

Graduate Credit:  One graduate credit for an additional $160 is available from Ashland University or for an additional $180 from the University of Akron. 

You must attend the entire workshop and complete an out of class assignment to earn the one graduate credit.

The Google Study Group

Description:  We are looking for dedicated people who want to learn how to become Google Certified Educators.  In four days of intense study we will take you through necessary coursework to be prepared to take Google exams.* Become recognized for your mastery in Docs, Gmail, Sites, Calendar, Chrome, Search and one elective.  Join us in person or over videoconferencing.  

Session Dates: October 22, 2016 and November 5, 2016, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Cost:  $60 per person at the Idea Center or $50 per person via video conference.  You must have video conferencing equipment or Real Presence software to participate in this manner.

Rent a Real Presence video conference license from us and take the class from home using your own internet service.   Cost: $50 additional. Limited number of licenses available.  For details contact: eric.siler@ideastream.org

MineCraft® for Teachers and Students

Description:  Learn MineCraft® along with coding principles by creating worlds and games.  See how to put together lessons and challenges to help increase science, math, social studies and/or coding skills.  Participate in a challenge and win prizes.  Children ages 9 and up are welcomed to attend with a participating adult. 

Session Date: Saturday, November 5, 2016, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

NEOEA Day Tour - The Henry Ford Museum & Ford Rouge Factory Tour

Description:  Tour The Henry Ford Museum and experience one of the largest collections of its kind ever assembled.  Learn about breakthroughs based on authentic artifacts and stories that have made our world what it is today.  At the Ford Rouge Factory Tour you will journey into the factory where automobile manufacturing as we know it came of age, and where the technology of tomorrow is on display today. Learn all about Henry Ford and how he developed and manufactured the first affordable automobile. Enjoy a delicious lunch at The Michigan Cafe. Visit Downtown Northville and encounter a timeless era of the 1950’s filled with shops, galleries and restaurants.  Explore how to create lessons about your experiences from the day.

Getting Started with MakerSpace & Coding

Description:  Teachers in grades 4-12 are invited to register as a pair and spend a half day learning incredible ways to supplement your lesson with design and coding. Each pair of teachers will receive two 3D Pens, one Makey Makey invention kit, and one Raspberry Pi3 Complete Starter Kit.  Receive step-by-step information on how to use each device.  See how to easily design lessons. Bring a laptop with a USB port or borrow one of ours.  Come ready to play and learn.  A great workshop for teachers who are serious about integrating MakerSpace and Coding into teaching and learning.
