Looking for standards-based professional learning? ideastream offers a wealth of professional learning opportunities.

WVIZ/PBS’s Educational Services Department provides a wide array of Professional Learning opportunities to thousands of educators in over 200 school districts in an eleven county area in Northeast Ohio. WVIZ/PBS’s technology training services can be tailored to a district’s needs from novice to the scholar and can be provided in the teaching labs of WVIZ/PBS ideastream, in your school district, or via Distance Learning. We provide the availability of graduate credit for workshops that meet university requirements.

The Google Study Group

July 27-30, 2015

Time:  8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Location: Idea Center at PlayhouseSquare®, 1375 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, 44115 or from a remote site

Cost: $50 per person at the Idea Center or $40 per person via video conference.  You must have video conferencing equipment or Real Presence software to participate in this manner.

Audience: All teachers and administrators

Description:  We are looking for dedicated people who want to learn how to become Google Certified Educators.  In four days of intense study we will take you through necessary coursework to be prepared to take Google exams.* Become recognized for your mastery in Docs, Gmail, Sites, Calendar, Chrome, Search and one elective.  Join us in person or over videoconferencing.  

*Google exams require an addition fee. 

Graduate Credit:  Receive two graduate credits from either Ashland University for an additional $320 (Ashland will be accessing  an additional $8.64 if paying by credit card) or The University of Akron for an additional $360.

Bring or receive an iPad at the beautiful Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens and learn about dozens of apps that will connect you with the wonders of history and nature. Experience the Manor House through the eyes of a trained interpreter and learn what life was like when the Seiberling family called this estate “home.” Visit the interior spaces of the Great Hall, Music Room, Plunge (indoor swimming pool), and the Master Bedroom. Explore the grounds on a mini scavenger hunt using your iPad. Discuss your findings and then begin building a lesson. Form collaborative teams to continue the learning. Meet a week later and share lessons.

Shaker Heights Mini Dig

July 21-23, 2015

Time:  8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

In collaboration with the Shaker Historical Society, Archaeologist Beth Hoag, Master Teacher Rosemary Nemeth and the City of Shaker Heights, Ohio, learn about the Shakers and discover their array of innovations and inventions that were influenced by their religion.  The Shakers, a celibate communal Society began in the early 1800’s, peaked in the 1850’s and then left Ohio in 1889.  The Dig Site is in the area where their mill once stood. Work side by side and explore the process of Archaeology.  Field trips to Shaker Historical Society, the Shaker Lakes and parks and much more as we explore in our very own backyard.
