Critics Liken Ohio House Budget Item To 'SB5'

The very small provision would ban unionized charter school workers from accessing state retirement funds. And it would change collective bargaining rights for university faculty.

Republican House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger says that language was put in there following talks with university leaders.

Rosenberger: "I don't think it's trying to bring back anything in Senate Bill Five. I think it's just an issue that continues to come up about how to control costs at universities and public institutions. So we are trying to take a look at that."

Democratic State Representative Debbie Phillips says she worries the language could harm not only public and private school teachers, but could also destabilize the pension systems going forward.
