Three months after Hurricane Maria made landfall on Puerto Rico, the exact death toll remains a mystery and is very controversial. The government has officially confirmed 55 deaths from the storm on the island, but the death toll is feared to be much higher.

Kritzia Basmeson, a Puerto Rican mother who survived the storm with her two daughters, recently resettled in Cleveland. Basmeson says her grandfather died in an intensive care unit in a hospital on the island and her family never got the body for a proper burial. This is her story in her own words.
