Remaking Cleveland’s Shoreway Helps Remake A Neighborhood

Newly planted trees along a raised median have replaced dozens of traffic cones that took residence on Cleveland's West Shoreway for months, as commuters from western suburbs grumbled about the closed lanes and reduced speed along the route. As part of a $100 million renovation, construction crews worked to transform the Shoreway into more of a boulevard.

Now nearing completion, many changes are evident, including access to West 73rd Street and a 35 mph speed limit. But how close does the project come to reaching the original concept -- as pitched in the early 2000's?

Cleveland City Councilman Matt Zone represents Ward 15, which includes the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. He joined ideas to discuss the project and what it means to the neighborhood.
