'8' at the Allen Theatre, 2013 Cleveland Arts Prize Winners

In 2008, California passed a bill known as Proposition 8 that banned same sex couples from marrying. The drama that unfolded is retold in the stage play "8," coming to the Allen Theatre for a one-night-only performance presented by Cleveland Play House on June 30th. The play's director Corey Atkins and actor Jeff Grover set the stage for the production of "8."

The law eventually wound up in the California Courts. The drama that unfolded is retold in the stage play "8," written by Oscar-winning writer Dustin Lance Black. "8" is coming to the Allen Theatre for a one-night-only performance presented by Cleveland Play House on June 30th. The play's director Corey Atkins and actor Jeff Grover set the stage for the production of "8."

This week, the winners of the 2013 Cleveland Arts Prize receive their awards during an event at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The story of Special Honoree, arts advocate and scholar, Franny Taft, the 1995 recipient of a Citation for Distinguished Service to the Arts. This year she retires after 62 years as an instructor at the Cleveland Institute of Art.

And we profile another member of the 2013 Cleveland Arts Prize Class, Jill Snyder, the Executive Director of MOCA. During her tenure, she orchestrated MOCA’s move from the former Sears and Roebuck building on Carnegie Avenue to their sleek new facility in the heart of University Circle.

And we'll see how artist Bruce Checefsky's passion for art and technology led him on a journey to find a new way to express his love of the outdoors. He found it through an object usually used in an office for making copies, a scanner.
