Abortion Debate Continues 45 Years After Roe V. Wade

The month marks the 45th anniversary of Roe v Wade, the landmark US Supreme Court ruling that a woman's right to make her own personal medical decisions, including the decision to have an abortion, is covered under the 14th Amendment.

Here in Ohio, the state continues to enact legislative restrictions on abortion. Governor John Kasich recently signed into law House Bill 214, which bans abortions performed after a prenatal test shows the fetus has or might have down syndrome. It's the 20th abortion restriction passed since Governor Kasich took office in 2011.

In the January issue of Cleveland Magazine, associate editor James Bigley spends time outside and inside the state's largest abortion clinic, providing insight to both sides of the abortion debate in his story, "The Hard Thing to Do."
