American Graduate Event; Breast Cancer Disparities

Education is one of the region's most pressing challenges as identified in ideastream's ongoing Listening Project. That's why, earlier this week, we hosted a community conversation focused on innovative solutions to the high school dropout crisis. It was part of our American Graduate initiative, a public media commitment supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Patricia Harrison, president and C.E.O. of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, came to Cleveland for this event. Following the program, Rick Jackson asked Harrison a few questions about public broadcasting's role in education.

Roundtable topics for this week: The presidential election is over a year away, but the latest poll numbers are notable on several fronts. University Hospitals makes a big acquisition. And, Cuyahoga County Council considers scrapping a fledgling program that gives students a head start on their college savings.

African-American women are diagnosed with breast cancer less often than caucasian women but they die more frequently from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute. In our continuing Be Well series on Cancer, ideastream's Kay Colby reports on some local research that suggests exercise could be one tool to address this noted health disparity.
