Cleveland City Council President Kevin Kelley finally oversees a budget that allows for growth in key services

Cleveland's City Council last night approved the $607 million budget plan - replete with additions because of November's approval of additional tax revenue from people working here. Cleveland will add 90 police officers, health department employees focused on youth violence and new staff to promote rental property inspections. The budget also includes $5 million for demolishing blighted homes and $1 million for housing rehabilitiation efforts. Good news is that some of the $8 million adjustments to the mayor's plans by council members will be largely covered by expected reimbursements from the Department of Homeland Security. That's for policing cfosts during July's Republican National Convention.
