Feminist icon Gloria Steinem urges young activists to trust their instincts

Now 83 years old, Gloria Steinem is often hailed as the mother of feminism.

Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1934, Steinem has lived to see fourteen presidents serve in the white house. And, she's been an activist during those administrations for the better part of the last fifty years.

Steinem's been front and center on women's issues from the equal rights amendment, to Roe v Wade, to the gender pay gap.

Just this past January, Steinem was an honorary co-chair and speaker at the National Women's March in Washington D.C. And today, she continued her push for contraceptive rights in Cleveland, after making a stop in the state capital Tuesday.

Ideastream managing producer Joe Frolik caught up with Steinem this afternoon.
When they spoke, he began by asking her reaction to seeing the number of women who came together in January following president trump's inauguration.
