NewsDepth Inbox: Season 48 - Episode #15

NEWSDEPTH QUESTION OF THE WEEK:  In this week's episode, we learn about a lot of odd laws. Write to us about a law you would make up and tell us why you would choose it!

Jessica, Westwood Elementary:  The law that I will make will be no smoking.  I would make this law, because smoking is bad for your health. Smoking can cause lung cancer and it can cause heart disease. Smoking can also cause throat cancer, gum disease, and skin cancer. If you don’t smoke but you are around people that do smoke then you can still get these smoking diseases. This is the reason why I would make nonsmoking a law.

Marie, Chagrin Falls Intermediate:  I would make a law in Ohio that would say homework was not allowed to be given to students. I would make this law because after a long day at school, some kids need a break. Also, they would have more time to exercise and do things that they like to do. They would have more time to play with friends and do after-school activities. If they did not finish a project in school though, they might still have to take it home. Also, instead of being inside, stressing about and working on homework, they could be outside playing. That’s why I would make a “No Homework Law” for Ohio.

Maya, Columbus Gifted Academy:  If I could make a law it would be to make animal abuse illegal. Animals aren't any different from people besides their communication and appearance. I think people should treat animals like people since nobody would harm or abuse their baby.

Adrian, Rock Creek Elementary:  My law would be that you only have to go to school two days a week. You would be able to pick which day, but you would get five sheets of homework each of those two days. It would be cool you could have more fun at home. Each of those two days would be six hours from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. I would pick Tuesday and Thursday.

Emma, Pleasant Run Elementary:  If I made a law, I would make a law that America should not have exotic animals as pets. I say this because having a wild animal in your home will be dangerous! They can even injure a human or even kill it! Second of all, you can even hurt or kill the animals if you don't take care of it. Lastly, they spread diseases like viruses! That is my law and reasons why.
