NewsDepth Poetry and This Week's A+

SO, WE’VE COVERED POLITICS, SCIENCE, AND HISTORY – BUT WE ALSO DABBLED IN THE ARTS.

IN FACT, IN APRIL WE CELEBRATED NATIONAL POETRY MONTH. REMEMBER WHEN WE TOLD YOU ABOUT ALEX LEWIS AND HIS FRIENDS WHO LEAVE SHORT POEMS ON CAR WINDOWS?

[CLIP]

SOME STUDENTS IN MISS. BIERMAN’S 4TH GRADE CLASS AT MEMORIAL ELEMENTARY, WERE SO INSPIRED BY THAT STORY THAT THEY TOOK TO WRITING THEIR OWN POEMS TO LEAVE AROUND THE SCHOOL. STUDENTS WROTE POEMS LIKE THIS ONE:
“ROSES ARE RED, VIOLETS ARE BLUE. YOU ARE THE REASON I COME TO THIS SCHOOL”

THE STUDENTS STUFFED THE POEMS INTO THE MAILBOXES OF TEACHERS AND OTHER STAFF AT THE SCHOOL. FOR SHARING THEIR POETIC POSITIVITY, WE’RE GIVING THIS CLASS OUR NEWSDEPTH A PLUS.

OH AND HERE’S ONE MORE:
“SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE. SO HAVE SOME JOY IN SCHOOL THIS YEAR. 19 MORE DAYS, JUST THINK OF FUN AND HOT WARM DAYS IN THE SUN!”

AND WE’LL HAVE PLENTY TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS SUMMER!
BUT THE STUDENTS OF MISS BIERMAN’S CLASS AREN’T THE ONLY ONES PROVING THAT POETRY DOESN’T NEED TO BE CONFINED TO NATIONAL POETRY MONTH!

MAYA FROM MARYLAND ELEMENTARY, WROTE US THIS SPECIAL NEWSDEPTH POEM, IN HONOR OF OUR FINALE.
NEWSDEPTH, OH NEWSDEPTH,
WE LOVE YOU THE MOST,
WITH DEAR RICK JACKSON,
WHO'S OUR FAVORITE HOST,
WE LEARN ABOUT SCIENCE,
GET- TO -KNOW OHIO
OH, NEWSDEPTH YOU’RE ENDING!
YOU ALWAYS MAKE US SMILE,
WE LEARN ABOUT POLITICS,
AND THERE'S MORE THAN JUST THAT,
BUT WHO WE LOVE MOST???
OF COURSE…
IT'S NEWS CAT!

THANKS, MAYA! WE LOVED READING YOUR POEMS THIS SEASON.
