A Review Of New Hampshire, A Preview Of Ohio's Big Upcoming Issues, And An Overview Of Tax Changes

It’s been a good week for Gov. John Kasich, whose second place finish in the New Hampshire primary has vaulted his campaign into the national spotlight. Kasich is expected to sign the bill that strips $1.3 million from Planned Parenthood, now that the bill that does that passed the House this week.

It’s not often that the four Republican executive officeholders are together in one room. But this was the week it happens every year, at an event organized by the Ohio Associated Press. Secretary of State Jon Husted, Treasurer Josh Mandel, Auditor Dave Yost and Attorney General Mike DeWine took questions from reporters for more than an hour. And they covered a wide range of issues, such Congressional redistricting, charter schools, the presidential campaign and their futures in politics, and medical marijuana - including a question to each on whether they'd used pot.

The March 15 primary and the results from New Hampshire provided the backdrop for an intriguing discussion at the Columbus Metropolitan Club this week featuring the top minds in Ohio political analysis, who are also honored and respected nationally as well. Ohio State University political science professor emeritus Herb Asher served as both moderator and panelist, alongside Tom Suddes, Ohio University journalism professor and columnist for Cleveland.com and John Green, the director of the Bliss Institute for Applied Politics at the University of Akron.

Spring is on the way, and with it comes baseball, flowers, sunshine, and taxes. Tax Commissioner Joe Testa talks about what’s new and what’s still around on tax forms this year.
