Beck Center Art Gallery

Lakewood's Beck Center displays the work of Visual Arts faculty and staff in the Jean Bulicek Galleria on the first floor of the main building.  Sue Ambro, Herbert Ascherman III, Ryan Finley and Tanya Long are just a few of the artists represented,  The free exhibition runs through August 22nd.

Cain Park Theater

Cain Park's Alma Theater will present Sondehim on Sondheim Thursdays through Saturdays August 4th through 14th.   

Church of the Covenant

At the Church of the Covenant in University Circle, there are two series of drive-in carillon concerts, performed on the McGaffin Carillon  on Fridays at lunchtime, 12:15, and on Sunday afternoons at 4:00. 

Cleveland Cinematheque

The July - August schedule for  Cleveland Cinemateque will feature 46 different programs, from first-run movies and classics to international films and domestic releases playing in the Peter B. Lewis Theater of the Cleveland Institute of Art

Cleveland Museum of Art

At the Clveland Museum of Art,  you can view The New Black Vanguard: Photography between Art and Fashion,  showcasing unique photography with a focus on fashion. It's running through September 11th.

Cleveland Orchestra

At the Blossom Music Center,  on Sunday evening, July 31st, Richard Kaufman leads the Orchestra in Broadway Legends, featuring muisc of Leonard Bernstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim and others.  Guest conductor Jonathan Berman leads the Orchestra and pianist Cedric Tiberghien in Edward Grieg's Piano Concerto, while Jaja Ling returns for an all-Beethoven program, including the Fourth and Fifth Symphonies, as well as the Egmont Overture.  The Orchestra has also announced a new concert series at Mandel Concert Hall, a series of three pisolo piano recitals by Vìkingur Ólafsson on November 30th, Maria João Pires on May 3rd and  Mitsuko Uchida’on February 26th.

Cleveland Public Theater

Cleveland Public Theater presentsThe Absolutely Amazing and True Adventures of Ms. Joan Evelyn Southgate, written and perfomed by Nina Domingue, at the Gordon Square Theater April 21st through May 14th.  216-631-2727

Divinty Lutheran Church

On Sunday afternoon, November 21st at 2:00, the Arts and Action Committee concert series at Divinity Lutheran Church in Parma Heights will present Cleveland Orchestra memebrs Elayna Duitman, violin, and Carolyn Gadiel Warner, piano and violin, .  They'll of Mozart, Bach and Franck 

FRONT International 2022

Oh, Gods of Dust and Rainbows is the title for the second iteration of FRONT International, a multi-venue exhibition that embraces art as an agent of transformation.  The exhibition features more than 75 regional, national, and international artists working across painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, photography, video, text, performance, and other media. There will be continuing exhibitions and public installations at a wide variety of locations across Cleveland, Akron and Oberlin, as well as online and time-based programs.   The project runs from July 16th through October 2nd. 

Heights Chamber Orchestra Auditions

Heights Chamber Orchestra will be holding auditions for all string positions (especially viola) and principal oboe. Auditions will be held on Monday, August 22nd     216.751.7816

Oberlin College Cooper Competition

At Oberlin College, the Cooper Competition for Violin takes place August 15th through 19th.  There will be in-person and live-streamed rounds in Warner  Concert Hall at the Oberlin Conservatory.  The three finalsits will perfrom complete concertos on the 19th with Canton Symphony Orchestra.

Ohio Light Opera

Ohio Light Opera has  announced its plans for the summer at the College of Wooster.  The box office will open to the public on Wednesday, January 19th. The season begins June 22nd and continues through July 31st.  There'll be six shows in all, including the Rodgers and Hammerstein version of Cinderella, Hello Dolly, The Student Prince, Pirates of Penzance and The Mock Marriage.  Those five shows will be performed indoors, while the Fantasticks will be staged outdoors. . 330-263-2345   

Players Guild Theater

The Players Guild Theater in Canton is presenting Ghost:  The Musical, based on the 1990 romantic fantasy thriller film.  The show opens May 6th.  330-453-7617

Playhouse Square - Cinema at the Square

The classic film series Cinema at the Square returns to the Connor Palace August 4th through 21st. There'll be 15 favorite films in the series, and all screenings will feature a pre-film performance by members of the Western Reserve Theatre Organ Society on Playhouse Square’s fully restored 1928 Kimball organ. and classic movie theater concessions. 216-241-6000.

Porthouse Theater

Porthouse Theatre, Kent State University's summer festival on the grounds of the Blossom Music Center, has suspended its performances of West Side Story as of August 3rd due to a Covid infection.  The show is scheduled to run through August 14th. Check the website for information on resumption.

Rabbit Run Theater

Rabbit Run Theater in Madison has the musical comedy A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.  Performances run weekends, August 12th through August 27th.

River Gallery

Local artist Patty Flauto will host an exhibition of her work at the River Gallery in Rocky River, with an opening reception on August 13th from 3:00-6:00.  The exhibit is entitled “Imagined and Discovered”: The Art of Patty Flauto.  River Gallery is dedicated to supporting the revival and continuance of Cleveland area arts and artists.  

Tremont Arts in August

Arts in August will present Verb, Ohio Contemporary Ballet, at Tremont’s Lincoln Park on Saturday evening, August 13th. The program features Anti/gone, by choreographer Tommie-Waheed Evans, based on Sophocles' tragedy Antigone. This contemporary ballet features an original score by Greg Smith. Performances are free. Guests are invited to bring blankets and/or a chair.  The rain date is Sunday evening,  August 14.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at West 30th and Lorain hosts noontime organ recitals every Wednesday at 12:15.   In August, Florence Mustric plays “Ain’t nothin’ but a scale,” on the 3rd and 10th.   On August 17th and 31st Linda Kempke plays “Selections from Bach’s Leipzig chorales.” On the 24th, Shane Brandes plays music by Bach and other composers..  Further ahead. in September, Florence Mustric plays “Masters of improvisation,” on September 7th and 14th, different music each week by composers before and after Bach. And on the 21st and 28th, Robert Myers plays “Major delights,” music by Bach, Pachelbel,, and others.

Valley Art Center

Valley Art Center is working with Art Possible Ohio to present a new Hallway Gallery exhibition called Accessible Expressions Ohio through  August 31. The exhibition features 16 works of art by 15 Ohio artists of all ages with disabilities.  440-247-7507  

Weathervane Playhouse

Akron's Weathervane Playhouse opens its 88th season with the northeast Ohio premiere of “The Play That Goes Wrong” August 4th through 28th.  330-836-2626 

Wolf's Gallery

At Wolf's Gallery in Beachwood,  there's a new show called Richard Andres: Selected Works 1950-1975.  It opens June 9th and runs through August 20th.  216-721-6945
