AsiaTown Street Named For Neighborhood Pioneer Stanley Eng

A street in Cleveland's AsiaTown neighborhood will get a new honorary name as a salute to one of the community's pioneering leaders.

The honor for Stanley Eng was announced during Cleveland's annual Asia Festival in May.

An immigrant from China, Eng died in 2004, at age 78. He is remembered among Asian Americans here for his tireless efforts on behalf of the less fortunate and the elderly. In particular, he was the driving force behind the Asian Evergreen Apartments, a senior living facility occupied by Asian-American residents on Payne Avenue. He also organized meals programs for seniors, started English classes for immigrants and served as liaison between Cleveland's Asian Americans and City Hall.

Community leaders in AsiaTown worked with City Council to honor Eng.

The street that will be renamed for Eng has not yet been decided, but signage is expected to go up by the end of summer.

You can learn more about Eng in the video above.
