When the Republican National Convention takes place in less than 50 days, thousands of law enforcement officials from around the country will be in Cleveland to help keep the peace.

ideastream's Darrielle Snipes has more on how some local universities that will be hosting the out-of-town guests.

University of Akron officials say they have 800 beds set aside at their residence halls for the Secret Service, National Guard and American Red Cross.

Baldwin Wallace University says at this time close to 400 beds will be used for RNC support staff, students coming from across the country to take part in programs related to the convention, and other organizations.

At Cleveland State University  about 500 safety and security forces from different organizations will be living in the dorms, as well as 300 pages and interns says Chief Marketing Officer Rob Spademan.

“The safety and the security people need to be relatively close to that action,” said Spademan.  “And when you think about that, the hotels are going to be booked with delegates.  So there’s really not going to be much left in terms for these kinds of people close by.  So we are the obvious choice.  We are on the perimeter of the red zone with the campus starting at East 17th Street. So it was the logical choice.”

Officials at John Carroll University say the school will also house several groups connected to the RNC but could not provide details.
