In association with each lesson, the Health’s Up team found a few resources that are accessible from the Central neighborhood. Some of the resources are online and some are in person but all are free or low cost. 

1. General Resources

1.1.   United Way 211

United Way 2-1-1 Help Center is a free, confidential hotline that helps people connect to resources and develop a plan if needed. To utilize this service call 2-1-1 or use their online chat form.

2. Healthy Eating

Friendly Inn's “mission is to improve the quality of life by cultivating, planting and nurturing individuals, families, and communities to participate in the world economy” and they accomplish this through providing social services to individuals living in the Central and Fairfax neighborhood. 2.2.     The Hunger Network

The Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland works to reduce hunger and enhance nutrition of all Clevelanders in need. The Hunger Network provides food and other health related services to individuals and families. For more information about the Hunger Network’s services, dial 2-1-1 on phones, or call the number listed above. 

2.3.     Cleveland Foodbank
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is a hunger relief organization that services Northeast Ohio. If you are interested in learning more about this organization’s programs or services, please email them at info@greaterclevelandfoodbank.org or if you are in need of food support services, call 216.738.2067. 

2.4.   Choose My Plate
Choose My Plate is a government initiative that gives nutrition tips and inspiration for meal prep. There is information about each food group and how you can be healthy on a budget. For more info about this tool, check out the above website, or download the app from Google Play or the Apple Store.  
 

3. Healthy Sleeping

3.1.     Medline Plus
Medline Plus provides information about health and medicine. The healthy sleep page shares resources and tools to help people get a good night’s rest. The site is a service of the National Library of Medicine, which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). 

3.2.     National Sleep Foundation
The National Sleep Foundation focuses on advocating and raising awareness of sleep hygiene and disorders. This specific resource focuses on healthy sleeping tips.

3.3.     UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center
UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center is a part of UCLA Medical school and has developed meditation recordings to help listeners based on what they need. The meditation sessions last 3-19 minutes and are in two languages, Spanish and English.

3.4.     Smiling Mind      
Smiling Mind is a meditation app for ages seven and up. The programs are broken into several categories to help people with stress, sleep, concentration, wellbeing, relationships, performance, sports, and mindful eating. This app can be found on all app platforms as well as on their website. 

4. Healthy Breathing

4.1.     The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland

Legal Aid is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services to people who need financial assistance with lawyer fees. Legal Aid focuses on cases that affect basic needs like education, housing, and health. To access assistance call 1-888-817-3777 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. or Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Also, their offices are open from Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. to apply for assistance in person. There is an online application on their website. Additionally, there are pop-up advice clinics throughout Cuyahoga County and the locations and times can be found on the events page on their website.

4.2.     Allergy and Asthma Network

Allergy and Asthma Network is an advocacy organization that provides resources about how to manage allergies and asthma. Specifically, for people who have asthma, their website provides tools for asthma management, treatment, symptoms and diagnosis. Also, information about exercising with asthma and where to find a doctor is available on the patient portal of their website.        

4.3.   United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
      
The EPA provides public service announcements to learn more about asthma. Additionally, they provide publications and information about triggers that are found in homes, community spaces, and schools. Also, the EPA has a podcast and blog to continue the conversation about asthma and what people are doing to manage it and reduce its impact. 

5. Healthy Exercising

5.1.     YMCA    
The YMCA is a community based organization that focuses on healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. The closest YMCA recreation center is the Parker Hannifin Downtown YMCA, 1301 E. 9th St., Cleveland, OH 44114. The YMCA has additional services including Open Door which “is a collaborative effort that offers formerly incarcerated individuals comprehensive case management, transitional housing and the necessary wrap-around services in a safe housing unit.” Additionally, Y-Haven, 6001 Woodland Ave, Cleveland, OH 44104, is another program that is located in the central neighborhood that provides transitional housing for men who are homeless, and people who are recovering from opioid use disorder. 5.2.    Lonnie Burton Recreation Center

Lonnie Burton Recreation Center is a Cleveland recreation center that is located in the Central neighborhood. This rec center has a weight room, sauna, game room, gym, meeting room and indoor pool. There are also weekday activities including water basketball and boxing for 8-17 year olds.
