Rock Hall Inductions Moving To Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse

The Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse is the new home for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, starting this fall.

After more than a year of virtual events across the country, the Rock Hall is looking to break out of a COVID-19-induced prison and return to a live induction event in Cleveland on October 30.

Rock Hall president Greg Harris said it will be the sixth time for a hometown induction.

“It was here back in ‘97 in a hotel,” he said. “Then, in 2009, 2012, 2015 and 2018, it was held at Cleveland's Public Auditorium.”

Harris said the shift from the historic 10,000-seat auditorium to the 20,000-seat FieldHouse is part of a multi-year partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He added that ticket sales information will be announced in July, pending pandemic safety guidelines. Cavaliers CEO Len Komoroski said the FieldHouse is currently operating at 25% capacity, per state regulations.

“As the governor has said, this is just a start,” said Komoroski. “And so we're very hopeful in the months ahead that we'll just keep building off of that amount.”

The Hall of Fame induction ceremonies were originally supposed to take place in Cleveland last spring, before the pandemic prompted a delay and, ultimately, a cancellation of the live event in favor of a pre-recorded celebration of the 2020 inductees in November.

The shift of inductions from spring to the fall will be permanent from now on, rotating the celebration between Cleveland and New York every other year, according to Harris. Among this year’s contenders are 16 performers, ranging from Jay-Z and Iron Maiden to the Go Gos and Tina Turner. The 2021 induction class is due to be announced this May.
