The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard warning due to waves and strong currents.

Good morning, iOpeners.  It's Tuesday, July 23, 2019. 

The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement for counties along the lakeshore until 2 p.m. Tuesday due to high swimming risk because of waves and dangerous currents. The city of Huron has closed Nickel Plate Beachafter a second swimmer has gone missing in less than a month. Crews are still searching for a 29-year-old Vermillion woman who went under while swimming with family Sunday. Two weeks ago, an 18-year-old Ashland man drowned trying to save others.

Amazon has not yet released a timeline for the Akron fulfillment center project at the former Rolling Acres Mall, but to prepare for the development, Akron is repaving Romig Road, which runs by the site, and upgrading a nearby freeway interchange. Mayor Dan Horrigan says the investment is coming to a previously neglected part of the city and that it has been a priority of his to get a new business into the vacant land since he took office three years ago.

The film industry veteran who helped bring some of Hollywood to Northeast Ohio is resigning from his post as president of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. Ivan Schwarz is stepping down to pursue independent media production. 

A Cleveland man accused of killing four people including his ex-girlfriend and their 6-year-old son could face the death penalty if convicted. Police say Armond Johnson Sr. fatally shot 25-year-old Takeyra Collins, then set a fire in the woman’s house that killed his 6-year-old son and the boy’s 2-year-old sister.

The Cleveland Indians stayed hot with a 7-3 win over Toronto last night. Mike Clevinger pitched seven innings, striking out seven. Rookie Oscar Mercado tripled and hit a home run in the win. The Indians remain three games behind division leading Minnesota. The series continues tonight in Toronto.
