What To Stream NEO: 'Black Women Coping,' Bestselling Authors And More

Ohio has a rich literary history, and its communities continue to add to this history even through the pandemic. Public libraries and writing centers provide many opportunities to love and celebrate literature. From a global poetry project to a reading of "The War of the Worlds," here are five virtual literary offerings in Northeast Ohio. 

Cuyahoga County Public Library

Writer Brit Bennett speaks with Cuyahoga County Public Library in a virtual event this Thursday, April 15, at 7 p.m. Bennett published her debut novel "The Mothers" in 2016, and her second novel "The Vanishing Half" became a #1 New York Times bestseller. This discussion is part of the  William N. Skirball Writers Centers Stage Series. 

Literary Cleveland

Literary Cleveland publishes " Black Women Coping in Cleveland," an anthology of works from 13 writers that detail the experiences of Black women in Cleveland. Dr. Tisha Carter created the anthology as part of the Amplify Projects series. A launch party and reading streams this Friday, April 16, at 7 p.m.

Chagrin Valley Little Theatre

Chagrin Valley Little Theatre streams a reading of Howard E. Koch's " The War of the Worlds" script from April 16 to April 18. Orson Welles used the script as a performance on CBS Radio in 1938, which famously tricked some of its audience into believing aliens had invaded. 

Wick Poetry Center

Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University offers an opportunity to speak to the COVID-19 vaccine. As a collaboration with the University of Arizona Poetry Center, the Global Vaccine Poem is online now. Participants write a few words as part of a worldwide community poem to promote COVID-19 vaccination.

Willoughby Public Library

Writer Lisa Scottoline joins Willoughby Public Library to speak about her new novel "Eternal." The bestselling author explores the fates of three friends during the rise of fascism in World War II. The virtual event streams as part of the Between the Lines author series on Thursday, April 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
