A Plus: Northfield Elementary School

Read the script:

THIS WEEK WE HAVE A VERY SPECIAL A+ TO HAND OUT TO SOME FOLKS MORE INTERESTED IN PIGS THAN ELEPHANTS. IT GOES TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO PARTICIPATED IN NORTHFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S RECENT ONE SCHOOL ONE BOOK PROGRAM.

THE COMMUNITY READING EVENT BEGAN WITH A BIG REVEAL, WHERE STUDENTS LEARNED WHICH BOOK EVERYONE WOULD BE READING. THIS YEAR THEY READ THE ADVENTURES OF THE SOUTH POLE PIG BY CHRIS KURTZ. AND IT WASN'T LONG BEFORE PIGS STARTED SHOWING UP ALL OVER THE SCHOOL, AND IN A SPECIAL TWITTER FEED HOSTED BY FLORA THE PIG HERSELF.

FROM DECORATING THE HALLS TO CHOOSING THE PERFECT BOOK, THE PROJECT TAKES LOTS OF TEAMWORK, SAY TEACHERS HALLIE ELAND AND KELLY MILETI. IN FACT, THE ENTIRE STAFF PARTICIPATES IN SOME WAY TO MAKE THE PROGRAM SUCCESSFUL. MS. ELAND AND MS. MILETI WRITE THAT "THE BENEFITS FOR THE STAFF AND STUDENTS SEEM LIMITLESS.

IT IS TALKED ABOUT THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY, AT PTA MEETINGS, AND EVEN AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS. WE HAVE FOUND THIS EXPERIENCE CREATES LIFE-LONG MEMORIES, FAMILY BONDING, PROMOTES A LOVE FOR READING, EXPOSES CHILDREN TO A VARIETY OF LITERATURE, AND BRINGS A COMMUNITY TOGETHER." AND OF COURSE, IT'S LOTS OF FUN TOO.

[MAN] SO EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME READING THIS BOOK RIGHT?

[ALL KIDS] YEAH!

[RICK] WELL IT'S OBVIOUS THAT NORTHFIELD'S ONE SCHOOL ONE BOOK EVENT WAS A BIG SUCCESS, AND SO FOR ALL THE HARD WORK THAT WENT INTO PULLING IT OFF, WE'RE GIVING THE ENTIRE NORTHFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THIS WEEK'S NEWSDEPTH A+.
