When a new aardvark was born at the Chester Zoo in England, staff noticed that he bore a striking resemblance to a beloved “Harry Potter” character: Dobby the elf. Zoo staff ran with it, dubbing the baby aardvark “Dobby.”
But this literary connection is far from the only interesting thing about the newborn aardvark. This is the first time an aardvark has been born at the Chester Zoo in its 90-year history.
Aardvarks are native to Africa and their name translates to "earth pig" in the Afrikaans language, but they are more closely related to elephants. The nocturnal animals use their long noses and strong sense of smell to sniff out ants and termites, which they lap up with a long, sticky tongue.
