What’s fracking?

AS YOU JUST HEARD, OUR STATE HAS A VERY LONG HISTORY OF OIL AND GAS DRILLING – AND THAT CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. BUT, UNTIL RECENTLY, THE DRILLING WAS LIMITED TO PRIVATE LAND.

THAT MEANS THAT AN INDIVIDUAL LANDOWNER WOULD GRANT AN OIL COMPANY PERMISSION TO DRILL ON THEIR LAND, USUALLY FOR RENT MONEY.

BUT EARLIER THIS MONTH, THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT – WHICH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OF AMERICA’S PUBLIC LANDS – AUCTIONED OFF MORE THAN 700 ACRES OF LAND IN THE WAYNE NATIONAL FOREST -- FOR OIL AND GAS DRILLING. WAYNE NATIONAL FOREST IS OHIO’S ONLY NATIONAL FOREST, LOCATED IN THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE STATE.

TO ACCESS THE OIL AND GAS IN THE PARK, THE COMPANIES WILL USE A CONTROVERSIAL DRILLING PROCEDURE CALLED FRACKING. UP NEXT, DAVID C BARNETT EXPLAINS HOW FRACKING WORKS.
