"The Making Of A Democratic Economy;" Statehouse Update

The authors of "The Making of a Democratic Economy" say what the United States has now is an unsustainable "extractive economy" that doesn't work for many of its citizens. It values profit over all else. The alternative isn't state socialism, it's a new economy built on community good, inclusion and sustainability.  The Evergreen Cooperatives in Cleveland offer a great example.
The book's co-author, Ted Howard, is a former Cleveland Foundation fellow who founded the Democracy Collaborative and was the architect of the Evergreen Cooperatives. He joins us for conversation.
Later, we'll check in with Karen Kasler in Columbus as candidates prepare for the Democratic presidential primary debate in Westerville.
