The Cleveland Orchestra: A Second Century Begins!

The Cleveland Orchestra begins its second century of music making by embracing the old and the new. The Orchestra launches two US Premieres by Deutsch and Glanert and presents a work by John Adams never before performed by the ensemble. At the same time, the musicians of Severance Hall welcome back old friends, as Herbert Blomstedt takes the podium, and Emanuel Ax and Garrick Ohlsson, grace the keyboard. (Ohlsson conquers Busoni’s monumental Piano Concerto!) Jane Glover leads the ensemble – reduced in size – in a “Messiah” of astonishing clarity (released in time for an Easter broadcast). And Music Director Franz Welser-Möst and the Orchestra absolutely shine in Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony, and Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos. More than 100 years after Adella Prentiss Hughes assembled what she called “Cleveland’s Orchestra,” The Cleveland Orchestra has never sounded better! Share that magnificent sound with your listeners! (Programs are 1:58:30 in duration, with the exception of Messiah and Ariadne auf Naxos.)
