1921 Jack Beeson – American composer (d. 2010); famous for his operas, the best known of which are Lizzie Borden (1965), Hello Out There! (1953) and The Sweet Bye and Bye (1956).

1933 Julian Bream – English guitarist, lutenist (87 years old); one of the most distinguished classical guitarists of the 20th century and helped significantly in renewing popular interest in the lute.

1934 Sir Harrison Birtwistle – English composer (86 years old); his works combine modernist aesthetic with mythic power and inspiration for many pieces come from contemporary art and the rituals of classical mythology and pre-history.

1965 premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms at Philharmonic Hall (now Avery Fisher Hall) by the New York Philharmonic conducted by the composer, with The Camerata Singers and boy alto John Bogart; 16 days later, Bernstein attended the U.K. premiere of this work at Chichester Cathedral in England.
