1670 Giovanni Battista Bononcini – Italian composer and cellist (d.1747); spent some time in London, where his popularity briefly rivaled that of George Frideric Handel.

1821 Pauline Viardot-Garcia – French mezzo-soprano, pedagogue and composer of Spanish descent (d.1910); wrote the ‘salon opera’ Cendrillon in 1904 when she was 83 years old.          

1872 Julius Fucik – Czech composer, bandmaster (d.1916); his march Entrance of the Gladiators is universally and instantly recognized as THE circus march, often under the title Thunder and Blazes.

1894 Bernard Wagenaar – Dutch-born American composer (d.1971); came to the U.S. in 1920, was a violinist with the New York Philharmonic from 1921-23, and in 1927 became a composition teacher at the Juilliard Graduate School; the son of the composer Johan Wagenaar (1862-1941).

1954 Tobias Picker – American composer (66 years old); diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome, and has said that there are "tourettic" elements to his music; appeared in a BBC TV documentary, titled Mad But Glad, about the link between Tourette's syndrome and creativity; involved in mentoring programs for children with Tourette's.

1965 Vesselina Kasarova – Bulgarian mezzo-soprano (55 years old); spends time between performances giving master classes, and, in March 2012, published her first book, I Sing with Heart and Soul.
