1883 Alfredo Casella – Italian composer, pianist and conductor (d.1947); from 1927 to 1929, principal conductor of the Boston Pops, succeeded by Arthur Fiedler; resurrection of Vivaldi's works in the 20th century is mostly thanks to the efforts of Casella who organized the historic Vivaldi Week, in which the poet Ezra Pound took part, in 1939.

1937 first performance of Aaron Copland’s Music for Radio (aka Prairie Journal, or Saga of the Prairies) on the CBS radio network, performed by CBS Symphony.

1976 premiere of Philip Glass’s opera Einstein on the Beach in Avignon, France, at the Théatre Municipale; the American premiere took place as a non-season event at the Metropolitan Opera in New York on November 21, 1976.
